一為題材特點。英語作文題材廣泛，以貼近現實生活為主，話題較多，反映了時代精神。涉及多種體裁，包括書信（申請信、求職信、交友信等）、日記、通知、記敘文、說明文、議論文等。其中，書信、說明文和議論文是高考考查的重點。
二為形式特點。圖文結合已成近年高考英語作文的命題趨勢，這種考題易入題且更有發揮空間。近幾年，看圖作文在高考書面表達中占有相當大的比例。自2002年以來，全國大部分高考試卷都是看圖作文。這類題型形象、直觀、內容具體，且在圖的前面一般還有文字說明，因此考生一般都有話可寫且不會走題。近年來，北京市“開放作文”就傾向于“就圖論事”，和2004年的“續寫型開放作文”有很大差異。情景作文仍沿用了看圖說話的形式，略有變化的是以書信形式表達，增加了實用性；畫面清晰，主題分明，有特色，易理解，內容源于學生家庭和學校生活，能有效激發學生情感，使他們“有感而發”，題目也更靈活、寬松，思維的自由度更大。
無論英語書面表達試題多么“花哨”。其實得分點僅體現在三個方面：表達準確，句子結構美觀，行文邏輯連貫。因此，教師在平時進行英語作文教學時就要有意引導，勤于訓練，注重積累，可以有針對性地從以下三個方面進行強化訓練。
第一，訓練學生用高頻單詞準確表達思想。我的訓練方案是：先給學生中文信息，要求學生用英文表達出來。如講“北京很迷人”，若不知道“迷人”或“吸引人”用英文怎么說，可以繞開生詞，換一種方式把這句話寫出來，比如這么寫“Beijing is so beautiful that many people come here.”你看，“so…that…”結構是初中學過的，這句話里的每個單詞都很簡單，而這個檔次的句子，就足以使學生作文脫穎而出了！
第二，訓練學生把短句拼成長句，并能夠美化句子結構。我的訓練方案是：在學生寫的句子的基礎上，啟發學生通過簡單變換“化腐朽為神奇”，如學生寫出“Nowadays parents expect their children to become a famous man in the future. They make them work and study all kinds of thing all the day.”這句英文后，我立即啟發學生美化該句的結構，將其改成：“Nowadays parents expect their children to become a famous man in the future, so they make them work and study all kinds of thing all the day.”
第三，訓練學生運用常用的幾個連接詞實現“行文連貫”。建立學生的“行文連貫”意識，讓學生明白英語句子前后是有邏輯關系的，這種邏輯關系需要連接詞來表現，這樣才能滿足試題“行文連貫”的要求。如“After it ate up the apple, the monkey jumped on to the fan. Then it jumped on to Wang Lin’s desk and opened it，but there was nothing inside.”一句中的after，then等連接詞，能給作文增色不少。教師可通過類似句式進行訓練。

This form displays the result of a survey on how to spend students’ weekend. It says that few students are glued to their schoolwork any more.
