下文中的短文填詞很好地考查了學生的語篇理解能力。如第3、4兩題,“在火星上人們很難進行對話因為聲音傳播不快”。學生必須閱讀下文,根據“在地球上尖叫聲能傳播1公里多,而同樣的尖叫聲在火星上最多只能傳播15米”才能填出difficult, fast, scream, most等詞。

“首字母短文填詞”是中考失分較多的題型,教師要在平時的練習題中認真分析和利用教材,選擇教材中的Comic Strip, Reading, Integrated Skills, Grammar, Main Task等部分的語篇材料,改編成短文填詞,讓學生在熟悉的語料中訓練這種題型,增強學生的自信心和成功感。

三、閱讀理解考查偏重表層信息

筆者發現,在一些練習和考卷中,閱讀理解題的選項設計存在很大問題,題目的設置偏重表層信息題,選項過多使用文章中的原句。學生無需閱讀原文,只要帶著題干到短文中找尋原句,就能解題,缺少推理判斷題和主旨大意題的訓練。不少教師仍然經常采用判斷題(True or False),如:

【案例3】我市某校初二英語期中測試題

根據上面短文的內容判斷下列句子的正誤,正確的用“T”表示,錯誤的用“F”表示。

1.Sally tried her best to learn maths but could not learn it well.

2.Sally spent much more time in singing and dancing than in learning maths.

4.The father asked his sister to teach his daughter how to learn maths.

【思考與分析】案例3中,題目設置信息表達簡單,考查類型過于單一,都是考查的表層信息題,而且題目的答案只有兩個可能,非此即彼,非正即誤,這樣的題目設置沒有考查學生理解、判斷、邏輯推理的能力。

閱讀理解的水平分為三個層次,即表層閱讀(reading the lines)、推斷閱讀(reading between the lines)和評價性閱讀(reading beyond the lines),題型的設計可以參照這種分類。[6]教師在命題時要注意兼顧這三個閱讀理解層次的考查。如案例4:

【命題建議】55題考查學生對于文章細節信息的理解,屬細節題;56題考查學生對于文章最后一段的大意把握,屬主旨題;57題要求學生推測“作者對于兒童教育的態度是什么”,屬推斷題。這樣的閱讀訓練不但培養學生獲取文章直接、表層信息的能力,而且培養學生根據文章的字面意義并結合語篇結構和內容的邏輯關系,推理、判斷隱藏信息的能力。[7]

教師在閱讀理解命題時要注意以下幾點:(1)所選閱讀材料要貼近學生生活實際,具有一定的真實性、思想性和趣味性;(2)各選項形式、長度、結構基本保持一致;(3)選項的干擾性。教師要抓住閱讀材料的關鍵信息設題,使用簡潔的語言概括文章中的主要信息,設置選項。選項要與原文表述有一定的變化和區別;(4)重點考查學生獲取信息、處理信息的能力,題目的設置應包括事實細節題、推理判斷題、主旨大意概括、推測作者意圖、語篇結構以及猜測詞義和詞語指代關系等等;(5)不要單一的選用選擇題的形式,適當增加任務型閱讀題(如信息匹配題、排序題、閱讀填空題、閱讀回答問題等),以便多方面、多角度考查學生的閱讀能力和綜合語言運用能力。

四、書面表達開放性不夠

【案例5】某校九年級書面表達題

你們學校將要舉行一次英語演講比賽,題目是“Fun with Films”,請你根據下表所提供的信息完成演講稿,講述看電影給你帶來的種種快樂。

【思考與分析】書面表達是各地中考的必考題型,主要考查學生以筆頭形式進行信息溝通、再現生活經歷、描述周圍事物、發表意見和觀點的綜合語言運用能力。[8]案例5是我市某學校9A 4-6單元測試卷的書面表達原題,題目給學生提供了很多信息,要求學生根據信息完成作文。原題能夠圍繞學生的生活實際,以“Fun with Films”為題,這個選題具有一定的真實性。學生都有自己喜歡的電影和明星,有自己難忘的一次看電影經歷,與教材9A Unit4-6三個單元的影視話題相符。學生在教材中獲取了大量關于電視和電影的語言輸入,所以有話可說。

然而,過多的提示信息束縛了學生的思維,試題缺少了應有的開放性,書面表達題變成了翻譯題,沒有能考查學生運用所學語言表達觀點的能力。筆者認為可以把案例5改成半開放性考題:你們學校將要舉行一次英語演講比賽,題目是“Fun with Films”,請你圍繞“每周或每月看電影的次數、最喜歡的電影及理由、一次看電影的經歷、最喜歡的電影明星、你的夢想”完成演講稿,講述看電影給你帶來的種種快樂。這樣,既保證了試題的開放性,又適當控制學生的答題,避免學生過多自由發揮,保證了考試的效度。

【命題建議】書面表達主要考查學生的綜合語言運用能力,體現“用英語做事”的理念。在設計時教師要遵循以下流程:

1.選擇話題。教師選擇話題時要注意聯系教材內容和課標話題,緊密聯系學生生活實際,體現任務的真實性。

2.設計引語。引語部分要能調動學生積極性,激發學生寫作的熱情和興趣,并提出文章要求。如揚州市2012年中考題:隨著網絡技術的不斷發展,人們傳遞情感的方式也在不斷變化。假如你叫王強,上周你就“使用紙質卡片還是電子卡片?”在班級展開了一項調查。請你給China Daily報社寫一封信,介紹此次調查的結果并發表你的觀點。

3.組織要點。為了便于閱卷,統一標準和要求,中考書面表達一般采用半開放性試題,既保證試題的開放性,便于學生發揮想象,自由創作,又借助要點限制考試內容,讓學生在限制的范圍內發揮。如下表:

4.完善要求。教師需要在要點后給學生寫作字數等作出明確要求,便于學生掌握和對照寫作和修改。如:1)表達清楚,語法正確,上下文連貫;2)必須包括所有相關信息,并作適當發揮;3)詞數:100詞左右(信的開頭和結尾已給出,不計入總詞數);4)不得使用真實姓名、校名和地名等。

5.寫作范文。教師寫作范文,是為了設身處地從學生的角度檢查試題,如要點表達學生有無困難,自由發揮部分會有哪些不同的可能,學生根據提示信息完成的文章大概會有多少字,需要增加還是減少要點信息等等。

6.修改要求。根據寫作范文時發現的問題調整要點信息,最后定稿。

命題是一個復雜而細致的工作,好的命題應遵循課標理念和思想,密切聯系教材和學生生活實際,以學生為本,做到基礎知識與能力考查并重。命題應遵循真實性、交際性、開放性、趣味性、思想性等原則,真正考查學生運用語言的能力,使測試具備較高的效度和信度。英語教師要多研究中考題,既了解考試的趨勢,也學習命題的要求和技巧。英語教師要通過嘗試原創命題提高自己的命題能力,并從命題看到背后的教學理念,改進自己的教學行為和學生的學習方式,使教學與測試形成良性的循環促進效應。

英語口語的教學方法是多種多樣的,也是一個很大的課題,教師也不能給出一個準確的模式,因為它需要學生的綜合能力:記憶、理解、應用、表達等各個方面。并且還會因人而異,存在個體差異。為此,下面五點是很重要的。

一、激發學生的學習興趣

眾所周知,興趣是學習一切的最好的老師,如果你對一件事感興趣,你就會竭盡全力去做好它;反之,如果你對一件事不感興趣,不管你多么努力,你就會發現做起來很困難。因此,激發起學生的興趣才顯得尤其重要。

首先,教師應讓學生明白學習英語口語的重要性,它不僅僅是一種升學、改變現狀的工具,更重要的是它是一種交流的工具,提升人的素質的方式。它也是一種為將來謀取更高、更好職位的一種途徑,為自己以后更好地生活奠定基礎。因為未來的生活都與英語習習相關,如:電腦程序,IT行業,公司CEO,與外國企業做生意。

其次,教師應不斷地更改自己的教學模式以便能更好地保持學生的興趣。如:游戲、英文歌曲、幽默故事、笑話、自由探討等方式。讓學生真正、自由地運用英語,發揮他們學習潛能。

二、加強聽力的訓練

語言的交流就是語言的輸入與輸出。聽就是語言的輸入階段,說就是語言的輸出階段。沒有信息的輸入,當然不會有及時的輸出。所以聽在語言的交流中起著非常重要的作用。

教師應當讓學生把聽練成一種習慣,也就是說,讓學生每天都能接觸到英語的聽,由簡單到復雜,但必須是正宗的英語,不管是美式還是英式,教師須選擇其一,長期堅持。第一步:可以先從單詞開始,先從看到單詞聽到背著單詞聽,反復聽達到熟練的程度。第二步:聽短語或者簡單的句子,方法同第一步一樣。第三步:聽復雜一點的句子和簡單的短文,方法同上。第四步:聽收音機,如:VOA中的Special English,BBC等一些簡單的英語節目。

三、開設課外活動,讓學生有更多的機會說英語

課堂學習英語的時間有限,練習會話的機會相對不夠多,因此,開展豐富多彩的課外活動就成了第一課堂的必要補充。為了讓學生有更多的機會進行練習,根據農村中學的實際條件,我們可以從以下幾個方面著手:(1)我們可以找一個固定場地,擬訂固定活動時間,以英語口語好的學生為中心,建立“校園英語角”,英語教師進行適當指導,每次活動都設計一個不同的主題,讓學生自由會話,讓口語好的學生帶口語差的學生,使他們能夠共同提高口語水平,讓學生有練習說英語的環境。(2)進行英語演講賽:學?;蛲荒昙壙梢耘e辦“英語演講賽”,每學期一次或每年一次。(3)英語短劇表演賽:可以舉辦全?;蛉昙墶坝⒄Z短劇”表演賽。各班選送一個內容健康的節目,形式可以是小品、幽默、笑話等。(4)英語歌詠比賽,學生通過唱英文歌曲,在享受中學會了單詞的發音,提高了自己的口語水平。這些活動不需要高級的設備,但需要老師引導好、利用好已有的資源,調動好學生的積極性,這樣對提高學生的英語交際能力有很大的促進作用。

堅持值日生報告制度或小演講,給每個學生都提供了均等的開口說英語的機會。盡管開始時學生要在課前作充分的準備,甚至查閱資料,書寫材料,背誦等。但準備過程中學生也能復習或運用到所學過的知識。每個學生鍛煉口語都是先從背誦開始的,然后逐漸積累句子,有了一定的單詞量和語法結構知識,或是所背句子熟練后,才能從“背”變成“說”。

一、注意語言形式的情景性

口語交際除了聽和說雙方外,還有交際動機、交際環境、文化差異、交際策略等多種因素,這些因素的存在使我們必須突破傳統的聽說教學的狹隘框架,注意語言形式的情景性,使學生在不同場合用恰當的語言結構表達特定的語言意義,培養學生活用語言進行交際的能力。如:在學習譯林版 “Hobbies” 這一課時,首先我讓學生通過介紹自己的愛好來認識 “Hobby”的含義,讓同桌之間相互了解對方的愛好,然后引出陽陽的愛好。這樣,學生在不知不覺中就掌握了這些句型: What’s a hobby ?
