一、OA系統的基本功能
隨著科學校木的進步，微電子技術和通信技術的發展，特別是電子計算機的出現，辦公與管理步入辦公自動化（0ffice Automation簡稱OA）。OA系統經歷了一個由單項業務自動化到辦公業務綜合處理自動化的發展。最先收到效益的，多是日常工作中那些重復性強、規范化程度高的部分。辦公自動化系統的設計者們首先從這類工作入手，設計出若干單一功能的系統。
文字處理是各種辦公活動中最基礎、最大量的工作。辦公人員的很多工作，如撰寫公函、文章，起草報告、命令等，都屬于文字處理的范疇。在自動化系統中，文字處理主要是指對正文性質的宇符進行處理，其工作范圍主要是以傳統的秘書工作為中心，側重點是人際信息交流。與其他信息處理系統相比，文字處理更注重根據用戶需求完成不同形式（如信件、摘要、報告）和風格的輸出。表格處理是日常辦公半務中需要辦理的又一大類工作，如財務賬單、統計報表、發票、各種預算表等的辦理都屬于這類工作。與文字相似，表格也是辦公人員表達和記錄信息的一種重要手段。計算機引入管理領域以后，特別是數據庫技術應用于管理領域以后，辦公自動化的技術與水平上了一個新臺階?，F在，數據庫技術已經成為OA系統研制的主要支撐技術，日程管理、文檔管理乃至管理信息系統、決策支持系統等，都是建立在數據庫系統的基礎之上的。電子日程管理就是對辦公人員的工作、辦公活動的開展及辦公設備的使用等的時問安排進行管理的工具。在國外，電子日程管理也被稱為行政管理支持。文件檔案的管理一直是大量辦公人員的主要工作，也是極為瑣碎、繁雜的日常事務工作。文檔管理的自動化程度直接關系到行政機關的辦公質量與辦公效率。
二、典型OA應用系統介紹與分析
（一）辦公事務處理系統
事務型辦公系統包括辦公事務處理和機關行政事務處理兩大部分。辦公事務處理主要是文字處理，即包括文字處理、個人日程管理、行文辦理、文檔資料管理、編輯排版、電子報表等；機關行政事務處理主要是數據庫處理，包括人事、工資、財務、物資竿管理應用系統，以及支持它的小型辦公事務處理數據庫。具有通信功能的多機事務處理型辦公自動化系統還應具有：電子會議、電子郵政、圖形／圖像處理、系統加密、國際聯機情報檢索、語音處理等功能。諸如，辦公信息管理自動化系統（SOAS），是一個以計算機網絡為中心，并配以輕印刷系統的辦公自動化系統，具有多結點的交互式人一機會話網紙使各辦公室朗承擔相對獨立的任務又互相配合具有較強的同步通信能力，同時也是一個多用戶的數據庫系統。
（二）管理型辦公自動化系統
管理型辦公自動化系統是在事務型辦公自動化系統的全部功能之上增加了管理信息系統的功能。管理信息系統是一個由人相計算機等組成的能進行信息收集、傳榆、加工、保存、維護相使用的信息系統。它能實測國民經濟部門或企業的各種運行情況，能利用過去的數據預測未來，從全局出發提供輔助決策信息，控制國民經濟和企業的運行情況，并幫助實現計劃目標。它綜合了管理科學、系統理論、計算機科學及通信技術，是一門綜合性應用科學。管理信息系統的理論研究與一些典型的管理信息系統的實踐證明，在開發管理信息系統過程中，一股應堅持創新原則、標淮化原則、任務和處理能力成套性的原則、信息輸入／輸出量最少的原則、系統不斷發展的原則等。
（三）決策支持系統
決策支持系統是繼管理信息系統之后發展起來的一門新技術。決策支持系統的分析、設計和實現是一項系統工程，需要綜合管理科學、運籌學、決策分析技術、數據庫技術和人工智能等多種學科的成就，其目標是支持并改善某一部門、企業的管理目標。決策支持系統是一種人機對話式工作的計算機信息系統，它支持（不是代替）決策者利用數據和模型來解決半結構化和非結構化的決策問題。所以，人機對話管理信息系統、數據庫和模型庫是決策支持系統的三個必備組件。該系統的主要技術基施是人工智能。
（四）綜合辦公自動化系統
綜合辦公自動化系統一般構成模式為：大中型機（或超小型機）／局域悶／遠程網+工作站+綜合通信使備+綜臺業務服務數字網絡設備。綜合辦公自動化的外部設備，主要指主機以外的硬件設備，包括鍵盤，顯示終端，圖形／圖像處理設備、打印機、智能復印機及其他通信網絡設備，其軟件因用戶不同而有所差異，但最好的軟件是通用性強，模塊化、可擴充和開放式的。綜合辦公自動化系統包含了辦公自動化的所有層次結構，即包括辦公事務處理系統，管理信息系統和決策支持系統，但它們又不是簡單的功能相機而是各種功能之間互相支持形成一個新的體系。各種功能之間的相互選擇又因用戶對象的不同而有所不同。
